About freedom FIBER
Connecting the Way to a Better Future Since 1935
Over 85 years ago, only 11% of rural homes in America had access to electricity. President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) to provide electric service in rural America. As a result, nine dedicated farmers with a determination to improve the quality of life for those living in Marion, Lamar, and portions of Fayette counties formed Tombigbee Electric Cooperative.
Tombigbee Electric Cooperative’s first line was 12 miles long and served 22 members from Guin to Sulligent. Now, we service over 9,000 meters with thousands of miles of line!
Why Tombigbee Communications Was Formed
Tombigbee Electric Cooperative always looks for opportunities to connect the way to a better future in our communities. When we realized many of our members didn’t have access to high-speed internet, we saw our next opportunity! That’s when we created our subsidiary Tombigbee Communications.
Tombigbee Communications fights to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve just as those nine farmers fought for electricity over 85 years ago!
Tombigbee Communications commits to connecting the way to a better future with world-class, ultra-high-speed fiber-optic internet and phone services…along with local support! What sets Tombigbee Communications apart from other internet service providers is how deeply we care about our members. At the end of the day, we want to see the residents of the communities we serve thriving due to the local, high-speed internet we provide through freedom FIBER.
