Education in Northwest Alabama took a step for a better tomorrow. On June 10, 2020, Tombigbee Communications hosted five superintendents, two congressional representatives and other education staff members to discuss ways internet could be provided to underserved students.
The meeting began with a message from Congressman Aderholt and an understanding of coming together to better children’s lives. Steve Foshee continued with what is Freedom Fiber, where are they currently and where they will be.
Open discussion began amongst everyone. The main issues brought up were: how do we provide service short-term and long-term? The idea of putting up hot-spots and Wi-Fi enabled buses in public areas were talked about to fix the short-term problem. Putting internet in each child’s home was an option for a long-term solution.
Freedom Fiber stands behind each choice the communities would like to pursue. The goal is to make society better and there is no better way through educating the young.
